South of Burnside the streets are angles towards Magnetic North and north of Burnside Capt. Couch angled his plot of town to True North. (Portland City Archives)
Angled streets as seen on our miniature wooden city.
Burnside street angles from Google Earth
This makes for a lot of odd shaped buildings.
The Flatiron bldg – Ringler’s
Another angles building home to the Kingston Bar and Grill.
Big Pink (US Bancorp Tower) harder to tell from here but because of the angle of the streets Big Pink was built with no right angles, it’s a parallelogram!. It’s fun to look at from the Google Earth view.
